(390 visits) Update from GU President, Part Two - the Timeline
I Bleed Buff and Blue Sun, Oct 15 2006
Timeline of NegotiationsOn Friday, October 6, 2006, protestors occupied and ultimately barricaded Hall Memorial Building (?HMB?), the University?s main classroom building. Shortly thereafter, the DC Police and Gallaudet?s Department of Public Safety evacuated specific campus buildings in response to a bomb threat that appeared to be related to the student protest. [...]

October 15, 2006Dear Members of the Campus Community,For those on campus who say they want to be heard, I assure you have been heard. You have been heard by me. You have been heard by the Board. We have heard you from the beginning of your protest. We have considered and discussed your points of view. We just haven?t agreed with you. And we still don?t. We recognize [...]

(177 visits) Unity for Gallaudet ribbons!
Bay Area Perspective on Gally Sun, Oct 15 2006
Marsha Helmuth has spent a great deal of time making beautiful buff and blue ribbons. If you'd like one, see her in her classroom in the Middle School at CSD (before or after school, her prep time, or her lunch time).Note: Blogger has refused to upload photos for over an hour now. Will post later. But take it from me - they are gorgeous! Buff on the bottom and a [...]

Did anyone else read the latest article in The Washington Post? Let me quote what it described Fernandes and what she said:
She says this protest is not really about her.
The anger is amazing, Fernandes said in an interview yesterday. “I really don’t understand. So I have to believe it’s not about me. . . . [...]

Check this Vlog by Joey Baer. You get to see many individuals talking about their feelings regarding the arrests of the protesters, issued by I. King Jordan.
It is mind-blowing thing the protest are able to unify from the East Coast to the West Coast ... and beyond (Hawai’i, Japan and Europe!).
Before I forgot to [...]
(97 visits) Framing the Stalemate: Entr'acte
Mr. Sandman Sun, Oct 15 2006
When last we left our intrepid band of actors, most of them had screwed up in one way or another over the summer. No one group (with the exception of the alumni) was totally blameless. Unlike DPN, Tent City Protest has proven to be divisive for all involved. What was and is especially hurtful was the divide between different groups of deaf people. While there's always [...]
(81 visits) Tent City: No Longer A Time to Frame
Mr. Sandman Sun, Oct 15 2006
The majority of my posts concerning Gallaudet in 2006 have been prefaced with the overall title "Framing the Stalemate." I initially picked that title because I felt that FSSA in particular had done a terrible job with public relations, but that there was still time to re-frame events. Thus, "Framing the Stalemate."To date, FSSA has completely failed as far as PR [...]

Today is a day of talking, catching up, planning... Everybody is pretty tired from recent events and so many alumni have come in and they’re catching up with each other. Some updates:
- Last night, alumni took over the guarding of the front gate — students and staff had the night off and got some much [...]

Elisa Abenchuchan Sun, Oct 15 2006
The Hall Memorial Building is still locked and inaccessible by protestors. My tent is still in there. Protestors have expressed their desire to go in and clean up the building, to take down the tents and clear everything out, but the DPS officers and the adminstration will not let them have access to the building.
Classes [...]

AUSTIN for FSSA Sun, Oct 15 2006
Stop whatever you are doing and feel the vibrating, thunderous STOMPING from DC. FSSA desperately needs our help?. Texans, your attention is much needed. Since FSSA is running low on funds due to various reasons (feeding our friends, bailing out our heroes and keeping our brave protestors warm), we again need to stomp the grounds back to let our friends at Kendall [...]

1000 protesters already! Way to go! Unity for Gallaudet is growing rapidly. With the homecoming weekend coming up, more protesters will come. Keep on with the momentum! We are doing incredibly [...]

NAD President Bobbie Beth Scoggins' recent demand that the Gally BoT take over operations from the Administration only increases pressure on this body. The BoT is passing the buck, saying the Administration has the responsibility of keeping order on campus. BBS's argument is that there is no order on campus right now. It is strange that the BoT has not shown any [...]
