(28 visits) Deaf Anthology # 153: "Cooperstown II"
Deaf Anthology Sat, Jan 03 2009
I finally got a response from a syndicated newspaper sportswriter on the subject of "Dummy" Hoy. If we can contact every sportswriter in America, it certainly will increase awareness among them, and perhaps it will increase the odds of having a Deaf inducted in the Hall of Fame, where he rightly deserved to be. Filipino Deaf from the Eyes of a Hearing Pers Sat, Jan 03 2009
I was watching CNN the other day about the news involving Israeli missiles striking strategic houses of Gaza City officials. While the lady reporter was covering the event, a very loud siren was heard at the background which signals an incoming missile to hit near their place. The news crew hurriedly scampered to safety. The rest of us who can hear are immediately war...

squared circles - Clocks Originally uploaded by Leo Reynolds Another year is over, and I'm asking myself what I'm going to do with the gift of time I've been given once again. I don't believe in resolutions. They seem so . . . resolutionish. I've always felt like a failure when I didn't follow through on [...]

(written by Heather)So, as Dana said, I took on a journey that was beyond any journey I have ever taken before. I have traveled alone in the US before, and I have traveled outside of the US with family, but when I ran into the opportunity to do some traveling alone, I had serious doubts about my abilities as a Deaf person to navigate in a country that speaks a langua...

Dana's Globe Trotting Fri, Jan 02 2009
MOTIVATIONI find that motivating myself is one of the hardest things for me to do. It is so easy for me to tell someone else to do something. I can even keep track and confirm that they are following through with whatever it is they started. This does not mean I do not self motivate; it just means it is a challenge for me. The best way I find I can motivate myself...

Deaf Characters in Adolescent Literature Fri, Jan 02 2009
I've hesitated adding this book to my blog because the story is about main character Edgar who is described as "mute". Folks keep bringing this book to my attention and it is one of Oprah's Book Club reads.... Edgar uses sign language to communicate. Louise Wilkes is a CODA and communicates using the Sign Language that her Deaf parents taught her. This char...

In Hollywood, your time is consumed, being on the set, rather than with your family. Being stalked by fans and paparazzi alike, when you want to be alone with your friends. Actors in front of a camera wants a change of life, a chance to be director from behind the camera, and vice versa. Broadway stars want to hit Tinseltown. Many of us are stressed out and want to ge...
